INFORMATION SESSION FOR PARENTS: PARENTING IN A CYBER WORLD – MAY 9 @ 6:30 PM – ALBION ELEMENTARY

Dear Parents

In response to many requests and comments by parents at Albion this year we will be holding a Parenting in a Cyber-Age
presentation at Albion Elementary School on Monday, May 9 @ 6:30 pm.

We have arranged for SOLOS (the Safe Online Outreach Society) to come in and present. The presentation is two hours long and is outlined below:

Parenting in a Cyber-Age

Youth use of online communication is presenting many new parenting challenges. These workshops focus on equipping those who care for youth with the tools to deal with these challenges. These presentations are for parent, parent advisory, and foster parent groups and the public and focus on Internet literacy and safety information.

Topics include:

» Web 101
» Parents as “cyber-tourists”; youth as “cyber residents”
» Emerging trends in online youth culture
» High risk activities online
» The nature of sexual exploitation in cyberspace
» Internet safety tips and resources

The material will be presented by:

Dolphin Kasper, Presentation Program Coordinator

Dolphin has been doing workshops in schools around the province for over ten years. He has experience working with a wide variety of programs and issues including: Violence, racism, homophobia, empowerment, self awareness, lifeskills and many more. He has a love and passion for working with people and brings a strong sense of purpose to everything he does.

As this is a critical topic for all families, we will be opening this session up to all parents in Maple Ridge. Please feel free to forward this email to any and all of your friends. HOWEVER as we anticipate a full house, RSVP’s are required to hold your seat. We are holding 100 seats for non-Albion parents (until April 18 at which time any remaining unconfirmed Albion Parent Seating will be up for grabs too).

This session will be entry by $2 donation to the PAC at Albion.
