BCCPAC Advocacy Project
We are sad to report news about the BCCPAC Advocacy Project.
The October 2009 Advocacy newsletter starts with these words:
“The BC provincial budget challenges affect everyone in some way, most notably those who need services and support. In addition to the unexpected cuts to school districts, public education partner groups, including BCCPAC, have lost grants that support the work they do on behalf of students.
That means change in the BCCPAC Advocacy Project. As the BCCPAC Board of Directors determines next steps for the project, we (Janet, Cathy and Helen) need to let you know that after Nov. 30, we are no longer contracted to work on the BCCPAC Advocacy Project.
For Janet and Cathy, the last day of work is Nov. 5, but we will be at the BCCPAC fall conference to deliver the opening keynote and provide workshops.”
Over the years, many parents in our school district have been helped immensely by Janet and Cathy. They have provided support and advice when parents felt they had nowhere else to turn.
Janet and Cathy are an excellent resource and visited our district a couple of years ago to present some useful information and perspective about parent and students rights to appeal.
It is unclear if the project will return at some future date if funding is restored or what other projects Cathy, Janet and Helen may undertake.
The end of the Advocacy Project as we have known it, is a significant blow.
